Club Championships 2016

First mooted at the AGM a year ago, the competition didn’t exactly go to plan but we finally have results:

The first final to be played was the Ladies Doubles – Sian Westbury and Caroline Tindale came out as winners over Janet Dunkin and June Ward 4 -6 , 6 -2 , 7-5. It was a fairly even, hard fought match with both sides taking the lead at times, the match swaying first one way then the other – anybody’s match until those last two games. Well done Sian & Caroline – a worthy final. Some pictures are here.

Mens Doubles Champions: David Edwards and Geoff Ward beat Andy Hawken and Charles Watts in a marathon three set match 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. It was a great final which, like the ladies match, could have gone either way with a very close third set – well done to the four finalists.

Mixed doubles Champions: David Edwards and June Ward took the lead early on in their match against Charles Watts and Cheryl Lydon and never let go of it winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Despite the uneven score line, there were many close games, long deuce games and some great rallies but some persistent net play by the winners clinched the match. Well done all.
